Out of the Frying pan - And in to the Fire!

In the recent board meeting of ICC (International Cricket Council) held in Dubai, Pakistan has been labeled as a ‘No Go Area’. The ICC also decided to deprive Pakistan from co-hosting the world cup of cricket 2011. Like the other Pakistanis, I was shocked… but not surprised. It was the obvious outcome of the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team, committed in Lahore, this March. It has been more than a year now that democracy has been restored in Pakistan. Since it has been restored, continues series of shocking news are appearing. For example, critical financial crises erupted, which caused the news of declaring Pakistan as a ‘Failed State’. Later judiciary crises came at the peak and gripped the whole nation, and in this state of dilemma when the Sharif brothers were disqualified, they shamefully took the advantage and cashed the lawyers’ sentiments. Another crisis ignited out in Pakistan’s northern area and got very crucial, when the Taliban captured a lot of land there. This caused the terrorist attacks in Punjab, and clashes in Sindh, specifically Karachi. Either its Zardari’s gang members or Nawaz Sharif’s ‘Group of lotas’, their top priority is to keep control on power. Pakistan’s stability and international credibility is not a matter for them. The recent incident on Sri Lankan cricket team which caused the ICC to take such a sever action of depriving Pakistan from cricket world cup 2011 and labeled as ‘No Go Area’ is such a reprehensible negligence from this democratic government that must not be forgiven. The relevant authorities were clearly informed that attack could happen. For such a high profile project, when the Pakistan’s sports international future events were at risk, no serious action was taken. As we have seen on TV, terrorists were openly firing and walking for a whole 25 minutes. Also, if you believe it or not, the main police station of the Gulberg area was situated just 1 mile away from the attacking spot. Later, instead of terminating and charging the relevant security high authorities, just as a formality, Governor of Punjab, Salman Taasir released a stupid statement, saying that, “These kinds of attacks happen in other countries too.” As a result, the inquiry committee was established, few people we arrested, and a couple of security personnel were suspended, and that was it. This is a fact, no Pakistani likes the military ruler there, but when well known, ‘recognized’ corrupt politicians like Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif come into power, they only work for their personal interest. Then, dejectedly people want to get rid of them. That is the palpable reason why America and other western countries stated Pakistan, as the ‘weakest’ democracy. In this situation, when military rulers are disgraceful and politicians are harmful for Pakistan, what else can we say except for ‘Out of the Frying pan - and in to the Fire’ (Aasman sey gira - khajoor mein atka)

May 26, 2009 will always be remembered as the darkest day in the history of Pakistan’ s Judiciary system, when Supreme Court overturned its own verdict barring the Sharif brothers from contesting elections and said it had been passed ex-parte. It’s a matter of fact that the new verdict has been accomplished by a group of favorite judges of Sharif brothers, who were appointed to handle this case. Just a couple of months ago, on Feb 25, 2009, both brothers were disqualified from holding any public office and contesting election. This judgment was given by the full bench of neutral judges working under a duly elected democratic government. Does everyone know what happened next? A shameful drama was staged by the Sharif brothers and the government had to deteriorate the Law and Order for the Sharif brothers’ sake. If we briefly review the recent events and role of Judiciary in Pakistan, then it will easily be concluded that Law & Order is totally Out of order in Pakistan. If you are a millionaire and have a group of professional criminals with you, then you can blow the wind whichever way you like. Since democracy has been restored, there are many criminal cases dropped from these so called leaders without any court proceedings. Either these are unpaid loans, money laundering, smuggling, murdering, contempt of court or filing of false affidavit, it does not matter; the verdict will still pass clear. Leaders of both leading political parities PPP and PML (N) have been benefited reprehensibly, but it’s a well known fact that Sharif brothers took unprecedented advantage of country’s critical situation. If we analyze their role in Pakistan’s politics, we can easily prove that they are absolute products of dictatorship, who had played 2nd fiddle men role for Gen. Zia-ul-Haq (Dictator’s king). The Cancer of today’s world ‘Taliban’ was grown under their supervision. Form their earlier ruling time period they fully supported Taliban, to the Swat operation when Taliban became serious danger for Pakistan, Sharif brothers never condemned their activities. Although Gen. Pervaiz Musharraf was a dictator, one of his good acts was the destruction of Taliban. The ‘Lal Masjid’ (Mosque) Incident in Islamabad was part of that operation. This is a 101% fact that ‘Lal Masjid’ was the safe haven for Taliban. Even after giving numerous warnings, Pervaiz Musharraf had no other option to stop their dangerous mission. But again, Sharif brothers opposed that operation, and were still supporting the terrorist leaders of Lal Masjid. Through the recent horrible incidents in northern Pakistan, once again it has been proved that the Taliban are a deadly virus for the country, and the founder of this deadly virus (Sharif brothers) are grinning at the ‘Out of order’ situation of the ‘Law & order’ in Pakistan. May Allah save our beloved country from such cunning and malicious people.
